Crucial role in tackling fuel poverty
BGC engineers are playing a crucial role in helping tackle fuel poverty and provide heating solutions for low income households.
The company now has a contract to work for the Eaga Partnership, a body which manages a series of Government-funded schemes across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Eaga has a £1.4 billion contract to deliver the second phase of the Government´s fuel poverty strategy Warm Front.
Through this they work with disabled people, people over 60 and families on tax credits or benefits to provide them with a wide variety of heating requirements.
These include cavity wall insulation, draught proofing, electric storage heaters, energy advice, gas and electric central heating, loft insulation, low energy light bulbs and boiler replacements.
BGC´s work involves installing electrical storage heaters in a number of houses throughout Staffordshire and Derbyshire – but they are hoping the contract will expand to involve other sides of the business.
Steve Wright said: "The contract is in its infancy at the moment and we carry out between six to 10 installations a month.
"But we are hoping to expand the scheme and diversify into other areas. Hopefully, if we continue doing a good job for Eaga in the electrical area we will be given a chance in other parts of the business."
